围栏放牧为了控制载畜量，保持畜草间的季节平衡、年度平衡和营养平衡，国外广泛应用围栏放牧，对牲畜实行各种轮牧制。如分区轮牧、季节轮牧、混牧等。围栏放牧不但可以防止草地过度放牧，有利于牧草再生，而且可以节省放牧劳力，减少牲畜传染病，避免牲畜无谓奔跑而利于其发育 。
