Research involving psychological reactance examines how individuals respond when their behavioral freedoms are restricted in a variety of situations. Psychological reactance is considered as a motivational state aimed at the establishment of free behaviors that have been eliminated or threatened. Previous studies have shown that psychological reactance is both a motivational state caused by the particular situation and a stable personality traits with individual differences. It is unfavorable to the individual's physical and mental development when the degree of psychological reactance is too low or too high, and a moderate level of psychological reactance is the most beneficial to the health.
