According to the multi-objectiveness and fuzziness in the assessment of groundwater quality, the variable fuzzy sets model could be used to assess groundwater quality. Meanwhile, the entropy method was employed to calculate the weights of the indexes to characterize their objectivity. Based on the survey data of groundwater quality from 2007 to 2011 in the Ganjingzi district of Dalian, a multi-objective variable fuzzy sets model was developed and the weights of the indexes were determined by the entropy method. The results showed that the groundwater quality area was between grade II and III. Compared to the conventional comprehensive evaluation method, the results calculated using the combined entropy method and variable fuzzy sets model were more reasonable. The assessment results can provide references for the comprehensive utilization and management of groundwater resources in Dalian.
