20世纪60年代末，哈佛大学名誉教授，著名心理学家鲁道夫·阿恩海姆提出“视觉思维”的概念。他通过大量事实论证了视觉和思维的统一性，并指出任何思维，尤其是创造性思维，都是通过“意象”来实现的。视觉思维有时能传递文字无法表达的信息，弥补了感性与理性、感知与思维、艺术与科学之间的裂缝。
英语语境:
In the end of the 1960s, the concept of visual thinking was first proposed by the professor of Harvard and the art psychologist Rudolf Arnheim. He justified the unity of vision and thinking through a lot of facts, and pointed out that any thinking, especially creative thinking, was operated through imagery. Visual thinking could sometimes pass on the information which text couldn't convey, and thus made up the cracks between sense and reason, perception and thinking, art and science.
