We introduced the chromatographic analysis technology widely used for monitoring the gas in transformer oil and its deficiency, and analyzed the principle of thermal conductivity detector(TCD) and the characteristics of micro electro-mechanical system(MEMS). According to actual demand, we designed an online monitoring system composed of the TCD based on MEMS for gases in transformer oil. Experiments indicated that the sensitivity and stability of the system satisfied the requirements of detection and it could be put into practical use.
