Slab waveguide is fabricated by using field-assisted ion exchange and thermionic conversion technology on glass substrate. The experiment result reveals that the effective refractive index distribution of the waveguides is different from each other. A waveguide with approximate step-index profile has been got using field-assisted ion exchange technology while a gradually varied index profile waveguide has been obtained with the latter method.
