From the view of etymology and genealogy, the Chinese character gan(feeling) comes from xian(salty). In terms of taste, xian is the blend of water and salt, as well as the blend of wu xing(five elements) and human desire. In terms of witchcraft, xian is the joint of human, heaven and earth, ghost and spirit. In the system of ba gua (eight trigrams), xian expresses the blend of two opposites: yin and yang. "The feeling with heart” indicates the joint of individual and others. Zhi(knowledge) demonstrates the relation among individuals in existence.
