The correlation between language, images, and idea is a particularly important issue in the Yi studies. Based on the assertion that "language cannot completely reveal the idea” raised by Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, the authors of Yi Zhuan not only for the first time clearly raise the proposition that "language cannot completely reveal the idea” but also initiate the assertion of "establishing images to completely reveal the idea”, by which Yi Zhuan not only realizes a change for Zhou Yi from a book of divination to a book of wisdom and philosophy, but also complete a creative integration of Confucian and Taoist thought on the relationship between language and idea and thus establishes its peculiarly important position in the history of Chinese ideology and culture.
