道心的涵义在历史上一直备受争议。有的学者认为，在封建社会中，心与伦理和道德标准具有一致性。宋代理学家程颢指出，人之心即人之欲，道之心即天之理。理学集大成者朱熹对程颢的观点进行了继承发展，主张“存天理灭人欲”。而陆九渊和王阳明认为，心即是理，应当存良知，得初心。
英语语境:
As for the meaning of the mind of the Way, it raised heated debate among many scholars. Basically, some advocated that the mind acts in conformity with the ethics and moral standards of the feudal society. Cheng Hao thought the mind of man is equivalent to human desires while the mind of the Way to Heavenly principle. Zhu Xi developed it and maintained that they cannot go to excess. While Lu Jiuyuan and Wang Yangming thought mind is just equivalent to principle.
