20世纪哲学领域发生的“语言转向”的革命，其实质上是哲学研究方法的根本变化，哲学家们开始从现代逻辑的角度关注语言，对语言进行逻辑分析，所以所谓语言分析本质上就是逻辑分析，体现着“逻辑是哲学的本质”。罗素摹状词理论的建立恰恰就是这样一个将逻辑分析运用于哲学研究的经典之作，故被称作“哲学的典范”。为了解决与“存在”有关的问题以及一个关于主词不存在的命题如何有意义的问题，还有弗雷格专名的空类问题，罗素提出了他自己的摹状词理论。

In fact, the revolution of "linguistic turn" in 20th century fundamentally changed philosophical research methods. Philosophers began to study language and make logical analysis of language from the perspective of the modern logic. Therefore, linguistic analysis in their studies is basically logical analysis, and this reflects that "logic is the essence of philosophy." The construction of Russell's Theory of Descriptions is a classical work applying logic analyses to philosophical researches. Therefore, it is called "the model of philosophical studies." In order to solve such problems as what"being" is, how people can make a subjectless proposition meaningful, and those concern Frege's empty class issues, Russell put forward his own Theory of Descriptions.
