The seven famous literati in the bamboo forest are pushing individual freedom and perfection in both physical and spiritual worlds. They have brought Zhuang Zi's philosophy of life into their system of metaphysics, thus turning the metaphysics into a school of philosophy highlighting the individual existence. It advocates seeking after the naturalness of human nature, but it is unable to find a way to part with the Confucian ethical code, hence being characterized by compromising Confucianism and Taoism.
