Social science is confronted with three predicaments that natural science has never come across, namely, the ontological, epistemological, and methodological predicaments. However, positivism, hermeneutics and critical theory are three options which enable social science to get out of these predicaments and to become "science.” These three hold different views about the "science” nature of social science. Under the influence of modern scientific methodology, social science and natural science would possibly altogether redefine the definition of science.
