Dissociation is the core concept of personal identity in contemporary western philosophy. Since 1960s, philosophers imagined various dissociation cases and they fiercely debated over personal identity from physical or psychological perspectives. This caused the theoretical revolution in personal identity theory. In the meantime, the question as to whether personal identity is important at all was raised. It should be pointed out that dissociation may be imaginary and our ordinary and simple concept about people may never change.
