As a pioneer of American ecological philosophy, Thoreau's idea is originated from Emerson's Transcendentalism but is not contained by it. He begins from the practice and observes the relationship between human beings and nature from a new perspective. He argues that both human beings and nature are equal, at the same time nature should be respected by human. In the process of seeking for identification with nature, human should think over the significance of life. Thoreau's thought goes in advance of his times. Ecocentrism is coming into being as opposed to Anthropocentrism.
