Righteousness is one of the most essential and important terms in Chinese philosophy which refers to the conformity of one's thought and action in compliance with Confucian moral principles. Master Kong and Master Meng considered it to be the highest standard of behavior of a superior man and were resolutely opposed to the idea that righteousness and profit should be coupled with each other as Master Mo thought.
