“异故”，是指原因不同。在辩论实践中，论证所依据的理由不明确，就无法形成正确的“辞”，就有可能会陷入诡辩。“辩”的目的是认识“彼”。要达到客观准确地认识“彼”，就要保证“故”的正确。所赖以产生和发展的原因不同，导致形成了各种各样的事物。自身存在的原因相同的事物就属于同一类别的事物，自身存在原因不同的事物属于异类。一定不能混淆事物之间的类别关系，否则就无法在此基础上准确找到事物存在的原因，也就无法达成对事物的正确认识。

英语语境:

"Yigu” means literally different reasons. In the practice of argumentation, if the basis of the reason is not clear, the correct "Ci” (word) will not be formed, and it is possible to get into sophistry. The purpose of "Bian” (debate) is to recognize "Bi” (things). To achieve this, we must ensure that "Gu” (reason) is correct. Depending on different reasons, different things are produced and developed. The same thing depends on the same reason, and different reasons decide different things. We must not be confused with the type of relationship between things, otherwise we can not find real reasons of things, then we can not achieve a correct understanding of things.
