贾谊的“道”论是以“道德”为根本的。他认为“道”是人们所由以处理人、事、物的凭借。“道”有本末之分，本是“虚”，末是“术”，本末皆道。在贾谊看来，“道”以“虚”为本，不是说“道”是空无一物的绝对的虚无，而是“道”之接物的指导原则。
英语语境:
To Jia Yi, the doctrine of Tao is based on morality. In his view, "Tao" is a means through which men deal with the relation with everything in the world."Tao" can be classified into root(ben) and branch(mo). Both ben and mo are part of Tao", but Ben refers to emptiness(xu) and mo refers to instruments(shu). Howerver, it does not mean that "Tao"is absolute empty. In fact, it intends to emphasize the subtleness of "Tao". It is the guiding principle of Tao in practice.
