For instance, Cao Cao's many actions, such as his incorporation of Taiping Dao, his policy of appeasement toward Wudoumi Dao, his centralized control of practitioners of alchemy and divination, and even his manipulation of Emperor Xian, were all secretly aimed at seeking the Mandate of Heaven.Cao Cao's title of "True Man" or "Immortal", one that was much admired in the Cao Wei period, had similar religious and political connotations.The great cause that Cao Cao strove for all his life was finally achieved when Cao Pi ascended the throne upon the abdication of Emperor Xian in the first year of Huangchu. Interpretations of many historic events during the period from Cao Wei's uprising to the Emperor's abdication are possible from the perspective of Early religious Taoism.
