Zong Baihua's discourse on "sunyata" bears the imprints of Buddhism, the traditional Chinese philosophy of "original nothing" and "chi", and the concepts of time and space from German classical philosophy. Ontologically, his aethsthetic theory is based on a developed conception of "sunyata" instead of the traditional Chinese philosophy of "nothingesss". The traditional Chinese philosophy however serves as an important point of departure in Zong Baihua's aesthetic theory. It could be seen clearly from his theory of art space.
