Lorenze Valla was an Italian humanist in the 15th century, famous for his Investigation into the False Donation of Constantine. He wrote to attack the prevalent philosophy of the Roman Catholic Church and was for this reason sentenced to death. But he did not die in prison. On the contrary, he was promoted and favored by the pope in Rome in his late years. This was chiefly due to the social view of value in the Renaissance and the policy of the Roman Church in favour of humanisim .
