通常认为，“三省吾身”的主张是曾子“修心”论的典型体现。孔子虽有相似的论断，但在其论述中未曾直接论及“心”。就《论语》而言，其中的“心”字仅6处，更未曾提出“修心”之说。
英语语境:
Zengzi is known for his discourses on cultivating one's mind. The famous statement in this respect is "refleting upon oneself three times a day". There are certain similar thoughts expressed in Confucius'discourses, nevertheless not in a linguistically direct way. In the Analect, the character "heart/mind" only appears 6 times, not mentioning the systematic construction of theory.
