Since the issue of The Religious Corporation Law in 1946, religious law in Japan has undergone about a dozen revisions. However, its basic principles of religious freedom, separation of church and state, and government's respect for the autonomy and self-discipline of religious corporations have remained the same. Within the management of religious organizations, two institutions, i.e. "religious council" and "responsible officers", manifest the principles of democracy and equality, and provide institutional protection for the development of religions after World War II. Due to relaxed policy and democratic management, religions in post-war Japan developed very fast.
