社会的发展变化所引起的语言变异，首先主要表现在词汇的发展变化上，而词汇的变化又主要体现在词汇的增损，即旧词语的隐退和新词语的增加两个方面。依据来源，新时期汉语新词语可分为新造词、外来词、方言词三个方面。新时期汉语新词语的特点主要表现为：音节有多音化趋势；缩略新词语大量产生；同族词增多；外来词有增多的趋势，并且字母词越来越多等几方面。
英语语境:
Language variation is caused by social development. First, it is mainly manifested in lexical change. The change of vocabulary is mainly reflected in the increase and loss of vocabulary, namely, the retreat of the old words and increase of new words. In terms of the origin of Chinese new words in the new period, they could be divided into three classes, the new coinage, foreign words, and dialect words. Their characteristics are as follows: the trend in multiple tones, and an increase of new abbreviations, cognate words, loanwords, and letter words.
