从形式上讲，英语和汉语都有语气句法的非一致形式。但英语更多采用形合手段，汉语更多采用意合手段，从意义和功能上讲，英汉语都存在语气形式、功能不对等的情况。如果把韩礼德的语气隐喻引入汉语，可简化汉语过于复杂、繁琐的语气分类，可用语气隐喻把语气的功能变异分类加以统之。

英语语境:

With respect to forms, both English and Chinese have the incongruent forms of mood. In English the incongruent forms of mood usually exist in the hypotactic clauses, whereas in Chinese they usually exist in the paratactic clauses. As for the meanings and functions, there exist the same phenomena that the forms, meanings and functions of grammatical metaphors are not equivalent both in English and in Chinese. Moreover, if Halliday's metaphor of mood is introduced into Chinese, the classifications of Chinese mood can be simplified.
