1979年因土族群众的要求，本民族的学者在党和政府的关心支持下成功创制出与土族语言习惯相一致的文字。土族文字诞生后，经上级有关部门批准，在互助土族自治县境内试行推广。20余年来，土文试教推广工作取得了显著成绩，只是同时也存在不少问题。

In response to the call of Monguor people, scholars from Monguor people established a script system according to their language habits under the support of the government in 1979. After Monguor writing was born, it was promoted in Huzhu Tu Autonomous County. The promotion and education of Monguor writing have achieved significant progress for over twenty years, and also have many problems at the same time.
