Rhetorical Structure Theory puts forward two analytical units in rhetorical structure analysis and they pave the way for a more effective searching scope of candidate antecedents for the resolution of third person pronouns in English texts. The effectiveness of such a searching model in anaphora resolution can be fully validated with a number of English texts. In particular, its performance in the resolution of long-distance anaphora is rather promising.
