Idioms are the essence of language and also rhetorical resources. Russian scholars have attached great importance to the structure and semantics of idioms but overlooked the rhetorical features of idioms and the relation between idioms and figures of speech. A discussion of this relation can help us understand the meanings of idioms more fully and use idioms more properly, and will thus benefit the study and teaching of idioms.
