英语语境:
"Que" in Chinese was a verb originally, but it began to function as an adverb in Middle Ancient Chinese, and differentiated into several adverbial forms in Tang Dynasty. These adverbs further developed in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and peaked in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. After then they declined and shrank gradually. All these were triggered by grammaticalization and/or changed sentential position. It is strictly used as disjunctive or intensive adverb presently.
