与其他实践派美学流派不同，和谐派比较重视对丑学理论的研究与运用，如代表人物周来祥、邹华、牛宏宝等在他们的一些著述里，对于丑的产生、价值、地位、审美特性、本质、特点等均有所论述，并逐渐使丑学理论走向体系化。和谐派美学流派中的部分同仁之所以如此看重丑，这一方面与丑学在美学中的地位日隆有关；另一方面也与和谐派美学体系的建构需要否定因素有关。尽管如此，但在客观上却促进了对丑学理论研究的深入，特别是其中对于丑本质的挖掘、审丑可能性的论述、丑特性的概括，以及把丑放在一个动态状况中来考察的做法，还是应该引起"丑学界"关注的。

Unlike other schools of practical aesthetics, the School of Harmonious Aesthetics pays great attention to the study and application of the theory on the subject of ugliness. This is evidenced in the works of representative scholars including Zhou Laixiang, Zou Hua, Niu Hongbao and others wherein they expound the origin, value, status, aesthetic characteristics, nature, and attributes of the ugly. Such studies have jointly built up the theoretical system of the aesthetics of the ugly. The significance attached to the study of the ugly by scholars of the School of Harmonious Aesthetics stem from two facts. First, aesthetic study on the ugly is becoming increasingly prominent. Second, the building of the harmonious aesthetic system requires negative factors. All this has pushed forward the aesthetic study of the ugly. Their investigation of the nature of the ugly, the possibility of aesthetics of the ugly, summary of the characteristics of the ugly, and their dynamic study of the ugly well deserve the attention of the academic circles, particularly those engaged in the aesthetics of the ugly.
