英语语境:

Synaesthesia is also called “union of the senses”, whereby the five senses that normally function separately are joined together and transformed to one another. Throughout the masterpieces of Chinese and English poetry, we may find a large number of examples in which synaesthesia is applied. As a psychological and expressive device in literature, although never systemized by ancient Chinese scholars, synaesthesia was extensively used in their poetry. As an artistic device, synaesthesia can be integrated into both Chinese and western cultures without much difficulty. Thereby, it can produce similar artistic effects in different cultures as a powerful literary technique.
