This article begins with the symbolic meaning of a judge's robe in the rule of law featuring the Western legal culture, focusing on the cultural functions of this robe, namely, the ecclesiasticalism, reasonableness in form, protection of judicial independence and the aesthetic value of a drama. By analyzing traditional Chinese legal culture, the author notes the effect of the introduciton of the judge's robe on us and points out the attitude we should assume towards the robe.
