梁有长有短，也各有特定名称。按清朝的规矩，需要数数这根梁的上面一共承托了多少檩条，有几根就叫“几架梁”，比如说梁上有三根檩子，就叫“三架梁”；有六根檩子，就叫“六架梁”，依此类推。梁的断面一般都是方形的，只把边棱做成小圆弧，显得更好看一些。四合院正房一般都带有前廊，前廊柱子上承托的梁有一个专门的名称叫“抱头梁”，在柱顶露出半个梁头来。

英语语境:

The main house of a siheyuan usually has a veranda. The beam supported by the columns of the veranda, called baotou beam, shows half of its ends at the top of the columns.
