The 8th century was an important period of the development of Chinese small seal script, during which Li Yangbing was a key person. In the present article, certain elements of the transmutation of small seal script during 701—754 A.D. (before An-Shi Rebellion against Tang reign) and 755 -800 A.D. (after An-Shi Rebellion against Tang reign) have been reviewed separately, and the turning point that Li Yangbing had brought to the small seal script has been probed into as well, that indicated whether he had resurrected or finished the small seal script? Prior to Li Yangbing, the hanging-needle seal characters in the works “Three Styles of Stone Classics During Zhengshi”, is the most important example of small seal script writing in Tang Dynasty; After late Tang, Li Yangbing's dew-drop seal characters had gradually become the most important example of small seal script.
