翻译行为并非纯粹的语言转换行为而是某种文化传递行为,电影台词翻译亦然。这是由电影台词的特点决定的。电影台词不同于其他书面文学语言;它有四个特点:综合性、瞬时性、通俗性以及无注性,这就要求译者择取适当、灵活的翻译方法。电影作为一种文化交流手段,译者应尽可能将电影台词中所包涵的的文化要素在台词译文中表现出来。
英语语境:
Translation is not a behavior of pure linguistic transformation but of cultural transmission; the same goes to the translation of movie subtitles which is dependent upon the characteristics of movie subtitles. Different from other written literary language, movie subtitles are characterized by comprehensiveness, instantaneity, popularity, and no annotation; these require translators to select appropriate and flexible methods for the translation of the movie subtitles. Since movies as a means for cultural communication, translators should represent as much as possible the cultural connotations in the movie subtitles during translation.
