The Ming government employed two methods in the management of Tusi in Southwest China by means of Costume Bestowing System. One was to bestow court dress and official costumes based on the ranks of Tusi leaders, so as to attain their goal of political unity through a unified system of dressing for officials. The other was to bestow the suit of feiyu, douniu and Chinese unicorn in addition to ranked official costumes after the reign of Jingtai (1450-1457) and of Zhengde (1491-1521).
