护封是书籍封面外的包封纸。印有书名、作者、出版社名和装饰图画。它既能保护书籍不易被损坏,又可以装饰书籍,以提高其档次。在通常情况下,书籍在运输的过程中,是用纸包裹好了的,以免在途中遇到脏物而受到损害。但到了书店之后,保护书籍的是护封。我们可以想象,读者在书店里好奇地拿起一本书,翻阅书的内部,但大多数的读者仍把它放回去,继续选择他需要的书籍。这样一来,一本书往往要经过许多只手的翻阅以后才卖出去,必然会受到一些损害,而护封被弄脏或破损之后还可以换上一张新的。
英语语境:
Book jackets are the paper encapsulating book covers. They are printed with the book titles, author names, publisher names and decorative pictures. It can not only protect books from damaging, but also decorate the books to upgrade its level. Under normal circumstances, in the process of transportion, books are wrapped in paper in case being damaged by dirt. But once arrived in bookstores, it is the book jackets that are protecting them. We can imagine after readers in the bookstores pick up a book out of curiosity and leaf through the pages, they usually put it back and continue to select the books that they need. As a result, a book usually has to go through a lot of perusing before it could be sold, and is bound to be damaged to some extent. But once a book jacket is damaged or smeared, it could be replaced by a new one.
