South Henan Flower-Drum Lantern is regarded as the most representative, complete and systematic folk dance in Xinyang region. It has been playing a very important role in the evolution of the local folk dance for centuries, and has formed a solid base from which, many other art forms are split and evolved. With the rise of multicultural education and the reform of basic education curriculum, local courses, as a crucial part of the national curriculum system, are gradually being recognized, developed, redesigned and implemented. There is a trend of the contemporary music and dance education to inherit one's own regional/national music and dance culture while trying to recognize and understand that of others'.
