“缸鼓”是由我国民间广泛流行的“堂鼓”演变而来，其形状似“缸”，上口直径比下口稍大，音色浑厚有荡音，音量有一定幅度变化，能烘托气氛。现时各戏曲中所用的缸鼓，形状像一只花盆，已失去了原来的面貌，故人们称其为“花盆鼓”或“南堂鼓”。
英语语境:
"Ganggu" evolved from Tanggu (a type of Chinese drum) which is widely prevelant among the ordinary folk. Its shape is just like a "gang" (a vessel), with the diameter of the upper opening slightly larger than that of the lower opening. It can produce sounds with a deep timbre and oscillations, and the range of its volume shows variations, which can be used to heighten the tensions. The Ganggu in current operas is shaped like a flowerpot, losing its original appearance; hence people call it "flower pot drum" or "nantanggu".
