As regards the date of its origin, there are invalid statements in early historical records on lacquerware, owing to the limitations of research conditions in previous times. Yangming, a lacquerware expert in the Ming Dynasty, held that the system of Qiang Jin originated in late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty; whereas some contemporary researchers fix the emergence of Qiang Jin lacquerware in Song Dynasty based on the lacquerware unearthed in a Southern Song Dynasty tomb in Wujin, Jiangsu Province.
