四病指书法上的四种病笔。明代赵宦光《寒山帚谈》云“字有四病曰拘，曰稚，曰俗，曰野。为法所繁谓之拘，为笔所使谓之稚，为墨所使谓之俗，为手所使谓之野。”强调法为我用，但我不可为法所缚；笔任我运，但我不可为笔所惑，墨由我磨，但我不可为墨所累；手听我意，但我不可为手所使。如是则笔墨相调，意法相生，心手相应，何患疵病不除。
