油画创自西欧，自产生之日起，就追求“视觉的真实感”。在15世纪以前，西方画家主要有两种画法，其中一种就是“坦泼拉”。对于油画的产生来说，“坦泼拉”起着十分重要的作用，或者可以说，它就是油画的“前身”。在木板上画的方法也延续运用了很久。这种画法的特点就是底子做得特别细致，可以用层层加色而作细致的刻画，比较易于写实。

Oil painting originated from Western Europe. Since the date of its birth, it has been pursuing the reality of visual sense. Before the 15th century, the western painters mainly had two kinds of painting methods; one of them was “tempere”. Tempere played a very important role in the generation of oil painting, or it could be said that it is the “forerunner” of oil painting. The method of painting on the wood had kept using for a long time. The characteristics of this painting is that the foundation is made fine, which can use colors adding by layer after layer to portray in detail; therefore, it is easy to paint realistically.
