It originated in the Tang Dynasty and was further developed in the two Song Dynasties, when it evolved its unique technique and fixed craftsmanship. Tixi reached its heyday in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. The carved lacquerware in the Yuan Dynasty, in addition to inheriting the craftsmanship in the previous periods, had also made considrable progress in respect to configurations, carving methods and so forth.
