A bronze scoop inscribed with the Chinese characters "weiyanglingguan (the official who supervises the wager game at banquets in Weiyang Palace)" was found in Luoyang. The studies on the scoop's inscriptions and the interpretations thereof show it should have been used in the Weiyang Palace in the Western Han Dynasty, as a standard measuring vessel for the volume of grains. In recent archaeological work, brone scoops in late Shang Dynasty have often been unearthed. By early Western Han Dynasty, the shapes of bronze scoops have been constantly evolving, and they also have grown increasingly multi-functional.
