汉语语境:
闲章是指镌刻姓名、斋室、官职、藏书印等以外的印章。闲章从秦汉时的吉语印演变而来，除刻吉语外，还常刻诗句、格言、自戒之词等。专门从事篆刻与书画的艺术家，一般都有许多印章。这众多印章中，除姓名、字号用章外，其余印章，在印学上都统称为“闲章”。闲章一般包括“引首章”、“压角章”、“吉语章”、“警言章”等等。
英语语境:
An unofficial personal seal refers to seals that are not used to engraving a name, lent room, official positions and book seals etc. It has evolved from seals of auspicious words in Qin and Han dynasties; in addition to engraving the auspicious words, verses, mottos and words for self-discipline etc. are often carved. Artists specialized in seal carving as well as painting and calligraphy generally have many seals. Among these seals, in addition to the seals of names, another name for representing a person's virtue and byname, the rest of them in Sphragistics are all collectively referred to “unofficial personal seal”. Unofficial personal seals generally include the “seals for leading the front”, “seals for the left or right corner”, “seals for auspicious” and “seals for reminders” etc.
