襄阳小曲流行于湖北襄樊、襄阳、宜城、枣阳、南漳等地,约有150多年的历史。据艺人的师承关系推算,在清朝同治年间即已形成。1930年前后,是襄阳小曲的兴盛时期。襄阳小曲传统的演唱方式为一人自拉二胡自唱。早期也有合班子演唱的,叫做“搭伙”。有两人对唱,一人操琴,一人打板(或敲碟子);三人演唱,则一人操琴,一人打板,一人敲碟子。若有更多人“搭伙”则增加月琴、琵琶等乐器。因为“搭伙”人数多,收入则要相对减少,因此人数不会太多。
