在林黛玉所题之“五美吟”，其中说虞姬的一首诗中写到：黥彭甘受他年醢，饮剑何如楚帐中。“饮剑”一词，不同于自刎，只有一个字面意思。“饮剑”一词，就如同一个思绪万千的人一个人在喝闷酒，必定是皱著眉头的，而虞姬在临死前也必定是紧锁著眉头，怀著万般的无奈和惆怅将自己的喉咙割破的。
英语语境:
Among the poems entitled Appreciation of Five Ancient Beauties by Lin Daiyu, the one concerning Yu Ji (Consort Yu) reads: "Ying Bu and Peng Yue were slain in the years later; It was better to cut throat in Chu camp earlier." The expression "yinjian" (committing suicide by cutting one's throat with a sword), with only one literal meaning, differs from the expressin "ziwen"(suicide). The former depicts someone in deep thoughts who drinks alone with knitted brows. Similarly, Yu Ji must frown and feel helpless and melancholy before cutting her throat.
