戏曲舞台上生旦净丑，行当齐全，关良所作多为京剧人物画，因此对京剧行当体制加以详细说明：二十世纪，京剧发展到辛亥革命前后，行当逐渐变化而形成稳定完备的体制，其行当体制主要分工如下。生行分为：老生、武生、小生、娃娃生；旦行分为：青衣、花旦、武旦、刀马旦、老旦、彩旦；净行分为：大花脸、架子花、武花脸、油花脸；丑行分为：文丑、武丑、丑婆等。
英语语境:
There are four major roles in Beijing Opera: sheng (male), dan (female), jing (male with a painted face) and chou (clown). As most of Guan Liang's paintings are about the characters of Beijing Opera, it is necessary to illustrate those roles. In the 20th century, the roles of Beijing Opera stabilized during around the Revolution of 1991. They are as follows: sheng includes laosheng, wusheng, xiaosheng, and wawasheng; dan consists of qingyi, huadan, wudan, daoma dan, laodan and caidan; jing are composed of da hualian, jiazi hua, wu hualian and you hualian (a clumsy male character with a painted face); chou includes wenchou, wuchou and choupo and so on.
