Baroque art originated in the second half of the 16th century and became a popular and widespread artistic form in Europe in the 17th century. It had been related to such connotations as 'excessive', 'abnormal', 'weird', and 'irregular'in most European languages, because its artistic style was greatly different from that of the orthodox classicalism. That is why Baroque art has long been misunderstood by people. This situation did not change until the end of the 19th century, when people paid more and more attention to the form of Baroque art, and they gradually found out in Baroque art such characteristics as being magnificent, gorgeous, full of passion and variety, emphasizing motion, charged with religious and other comprehensive themes.
