It seems to be one of the characteristics of Chinese academic tradition that the historical reason has been found in ancient times. The growth of the historical reason in ancient China may be divided into three stages. The first stage, between the later Shang and the early Zhou period (the 11th century B.C.), has witnessed the formation of the thesis that the historical reason was consistent with the moral reason. At the second stage, between the later Zhou and the Qin Dynasty (from the 8th century B.C. to 221 B.C.), an antithesis has come into being that the historical reason is transforming from a kind of moral reason to the natural reason. The Han dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.) is the third stage when the historical reason is becoming consistent with the moral reason again and compatible with the natural reason (the inner nature of human being). It is a stage of synthesis.

The contemporary shift of the focus of historical theoretical studies can be taken as an opportunity for the theoretical clarification of historical rationality.
