The so-called "New philosophy popularization movement", refers to a social thought campaign which started in the 1930s in Shanghai. Under the direct leadership of the Party Central Committee and organized by the Alliance of Chinese Social Scientists, the campaign, launched by such members as Ai Siqi and Shen Zhiyuan, and joined by a series of progressive intellectuals, was characterized by the publicization and popularization in the propaganda of Marxist philosophy, and it went on during the Anti-Japanese War and well after the founding of the PRC.
